OFS Raman Fibers are specifically designed for applications where a high Raman gain efficiency is required. Both standard PM types are designed with a high index core and a small effective area which yields such a high Raman gain efficiency; the PM version employs B2O3 doped stress rods for high birefringence.

With appropriate choice of pump wavelength, the standard Raman fiber can provide gain at any wavelength from 1200 to 1700 nm. Additionally, it offers excellent bending performance and splicing properties, and low attenuation at the water peak.
